Yorkshire Union Meeting 3rd October Leeds
Notice has been received of the Next Meeting of the Yorkshire Union to be held on 3rd October 2013 in Leeds .
Peter Wright President of the Yorkshire Union Writes as follows :
I hope that everyone has had the opportunity to enjoy some of what has turned out to be a much warmer summer than has been the case for the last few years, and enjoyed some of the British sporting successes, including The Ashes (both male and female teams), The British Lions tour, Andy Murray at Wimbledon, Justin Rose at the US Open and Chris Froome at the Tour de France, to name but a few, which have made up for the lack of an Olympics this year!
For our first meeting of the new year, I would like to invite all Local Law Societies in Yorkshire, whether you are current members of the Yorkshire Union or not, to attend. This will give everyone the opportunity to hear about how we are looking to develop the Yorkshire Union into a valuable regional resource for all of our members. We are holding the meeting on 3 October, the day following the Yorkshire Lawyer Awards, so if you are already traveling to Leeds for the Awards it may be possible for you to combine attending both the Dinner and our meeting the next morning (where we have arranged for plenty of coffee to be available!)
We hope to make the Yorkshire Union into a forum where our members can share experiences, discuss policy affecting practitioners in our region and, where appropriate, to work with members to respond on key policy consultations such as the changes in Legal Aid or the ongoing Legal Education and Training Review. With support, we are also investigating the possibility of holding Regional Events. We look forward to sharing some of our ideas with you at the meeting, and hearing from you with your views. A copy of the Agenda is attached.
We have set up a website this year and hope to open this to all of our members for this use so that they can promote social events or CPD seminars that may be of interest across the region. You can take a look at the Yorkshire Union website at www.YorkshireUnion.wordpress.com, and you can follow us on Twitter at @YorkshireUnion.
I would be grateful if you could let me know by responding to this message if you are able to attend. If you are unable to attend personally, please feel free to nominate a colleague from your law society to attend in your place.
The meeting is being kindly hosted by HAYS at their Leeds offices, with lunch following from 1pm at the adjacent Park Row Bar and Brasserie. Please confirm if you will be able to stay for lunch so that we can confirm numbers with the restaurant.
We are locating this meeting in Leeds to allow for access by Law Societies from across the region, and look forward to hearing from law societies that would be interested in hosting future meetings of the Yorkshire Union.
I look forward to welcoming you to the meeting on Thursday 3 October.
